Certificates of Origin
A Certificate of Origin confirms where your goods were produced or manufactured. Many countries require one before goods can enter, and if New Zealand has a Free Trade Agreement with the destination country, a Certificate of Origin may also reduce or eliminate duty charges.
New Zealand Chambers issue both standard Certificates of Origin and FTA Certificates of Origin, as well as Certificates of Free Sale and Certificates of Manufacture. Your local Chamber can advise which certificate you need and guide you through the process.
Which Chambers offer certification
Electronic and wet-stamped:
Rotorua, Marlborough, Nelson Tasman, South Canterbury, Southland and Taranaki
Electronic and wet-stamped + NZ-China FTA, AANZFTA, RCEP and NZ-UAE CEPA:
Auckland, Waikato, Tauranga, Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, Business Canterbury and Business South
Wet-stamped only:
Northland, Manawatū and Hutt Valley
Free Trade Agreements
New Zealand has Free Trade Agreements with a growing number of countries, opening doors to preferential tariffs and easier market access for Kiwi exporters.
Understanding which agreement applies to your goods, and whether your products qualify, can make a significant difference to your costs and competitiveness.
For some agreements, including Korea, Taiwan, CPTPP, UK and EU, exporters can self-certify origin. Your local Chamber can advise on eligibility and requirements.
ATA Carnets
An ATA Carnet is an internationally recognised customs document that allows you to temporarily export goods such as trade show equipment, commercial samples, or professional tools, without paying duties or taxes at each border.
Valid for up to one year, it replaces the need for separate import procedures in each country you visit.

Wet-Stamped Certification
Most export documents are certified electronically. However, some countries require physical stamping of documents. The following countries require or may require wet-stamped certification:

INCOTERMS are internationally recognised trade terms that define the responsibilities of buyers and sellers in international transactions.
Using the correct INCOTERMS in your contracts and documentation is an important part of managing risk and cost in global trade.
The current version is INCOTERMS 2020. Hard copies and digital app versions are available through your local Chamber.
